10 Sept, Chautara – Almost 90 percent of the drinking water projects, devastated by the 2015 earthquake in Sindhupalchowk district, have been so far complete.
Reconstruction is underway in 10 percent of total 691 projects which were affected by the earthquake occurred in 25 April 2015 and its aftershocks, shared Engineer at Drinking Water and Sanitation Division Office, Laxmi Upadhyay.
Among the quake-damaged drinking water projects, some need maintenance, some reconstruction and few are to be relocated.
Works have been intensified in the areas where water sources have dried up, deviated from its earlier position and new human settlements are established.
He further shared that the construction of drinking water projects in Irkhuko Diyale, Melamchi, (Giraunchaur), Helambu and Gati in the new settlement is carried out in a war footing.
Likewise, the Chautara-Thalkharka drinking water project witnessed change in 18 kilometre pipes last year. The project has been supplying water to the locals of district headquarters, Chautara Bazaar and its adjoining villages.
