20 Oct, Pathari (Morang)- A mentally retarded man has been chained up by his family since the past four years. Tilak Bahadur Karki,48, a resident of Madhumalla-1 in Morang has been tied with a chain at his home.
He had to be tied up with a chain for his security after his treatment was not possible owing to financial reasons, his 78-year-old father Dal Bahadur Karki said. “We have tied him up with a chain due to the fear that he may get lost”, Karki said.
Karki also lamented for not being able to take his son to a big hospital due to financial constraints. The only property the Karki family has is an old house and a small plot of land. “If I sell this, then where do we stay?” he says.
Karki also recently lost his wife and has been struggling to look after his son all by himself. He is also worried about the plight of his son in case he passes away. He however still hopes that his son could make his ends meet provided he was treated in a big hospital. However, who would come to his rescue? RSS (photo available)
