30 Oct, COLOMBO- Sri Lanka’s Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya on Monday said the present political crisis should be settled through Parliament or else many lives would be lost.
A severe political crisis erupted in Sri Lanka since last Friday when President Maithripala Sirisena sacked Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and appointed former president Mahinda Rajapakse to the post.
Wickremesinghe said the move was illegal and has since then, called for the Parliament to be summoned immediately to prove his party’s majority.
Last Saturday, Sirisena prorogued the Parliament till Nov. 16, following which there have been increasing calls for the Parliament to summon to solve the ensuing political crisis. Enditem
