19 Feb, Bhimduttanagar – Women in Kanchanpur district are compelled to eke out their family livelihood by transporting goods from bordering Indian market.
The single and disadvantaged women of the district are resorting to import goods on cycles.
They are bringing varieties of goods weighing around 2 quintals a day on their bicycles to district headquarters, Bhimduttanagar, from Indian market Banbasa. They need to pull cycles around 20 kilometres a day to import the goods to Nepali market.
Each women labourer would earn up at the range of Rs 200 to Rs 400 from goods transport daily.
The women shared they spend the daily income to meet family expenses and children’s education. Jaaki Rana, a local of Kedkot Municipality shared that they are compelled to run their family affairs from the income earned up from hard labour.
“Sometimes the customs office creates trouble to us”, she said, adding, “It was their compulsion to sustain livelihoods of family members by toiling hard”.
