
20 Feb, MEHTARLAM, Afghanistan. Six civilians were killed after a vehicle ran over on a Taliban landmine in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Laghman on Tuesday, the provincial government said.
“The incident occurred in Surkhakan locality of Qarghai district in mid-day and the vehicle was destroyed by the explosion. The next-of-kin of the victims were notified after the incident,” the government said in a statement.
The statement blamed Taliban militants for the attack.
The Taliban has been using Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to make roadside bombs and landmines targeting security forces, but the lethal home-made weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.
Provincial Governor Mohammad Asif Nang condemned planting the IED along the dusty road and instructed security forces to find and bring the perpetrators to justice, the statement added. Enditem
