29  Dec,Kathmandu: Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Hitraj Pandey, speaking in a meeting of the Development Committee under the Legislature-Parliament today, said that the election of the local bodies will be announced soon after forging consensus among the political parties.
He further shared that the Prime Minister will soon receive the report of the Local Bodies Restructuring Commission.
The commission formed by the erstwhile government has met the PM Dahal on Wednesday and requested him to receive the report. The commission has prepared the report recommending 716 local units.
Commission eager to submit report: chair Poudel
The commission chairman Balananda Poudel, speaking in the meeting, said that the commission was ready and in a hurry to submit the report to the government. He added that the commission prepared the report being based on the constitutional provision and merging the VDCs without splitting the wards following the request of the election commission.
Election commission, ready to hold all levels election: chief commissioner
Chief Commissioner at the Election Commission Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav urged the government and political parties to forge consensus for announcing the date of the elections, adding that the commission was ready to hold all levels of elections. Yadav further urged the government to pass the bills regarding the elections. CEC Yadav however said there might be some difficulties to print the ballot papers to hold the election of the local level.
Similarly, commissioner Ila Sharma urged all not to amend the election working procedure regarding the provision of ensuring 50 per cent women candidates and having a woman as either chief or deputy chief in each local level. RSS
