12 April, Bhaktapur : The local administration on Tuesday lodged a case of public offense against five persons for hurling stones while pulling the chariot of Bisket Jatra in Bhaktapur on the first day of the Jatra.
Those facing public offense are Shyam Krishna Shahi, Roshan Prajapati (Avinabh), Sagun Prajapati and Sanjib Fasikau of Bhaktapur Municipality.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishna Prasain said that Bikesh Pahari, 21, of Badikhel-7 in Lalitpur and currently living at Suryabinayak was held with a Khukuri. A case against Pahari is also lodged by arresting him on Monday night for his involvement in hurling stones and hooliganism, and smashing CC Camera.
At least 11 persons including five police personnel were injured after the two opposite groups hurled stones at each other on Monday night.
As per the tradition, the Bisket Jatra is observed by pulling the chariot from Taumadhi in the first of the traditional festival.
Likewise, the chariot of Bhairabh designed in the Pyagoda style and made of wood has lost its shape in the very first day of the festival.
Chief of Guthi Corporation, Bhaktapur, Hari Prasad Subedi has promised to immediately maintain the chariot.
