Singapore urged to invest in Nepal



May 4,Kathmandu : Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, who is presently on a visit to Singapore, today met with his Singaporean counterpart Ms Josephine Teo Li Min.
During the meeting, the two sides agreed on the issue of establishing a bilateral joint consultative mechanism for the consolidation of bilateral diplomatic relations and promotion of bilateral investment. The two ministers exchanged views on bilateral relations existing between Nepal and Singapore and mutual interest, according to Foreign Minister’s press advisor Yek Raj Pathak.
The meeting also agreed to hold a meeting of a joint consultative meeting of Investment Boards of Singapore and Nepal.
With the ending of prolonged political transition in Nepal, the country was moving towards the path of peace, stability and development and investment friendly atmosphere was being created in Nepal, Minister Mahat apprised the Singaporean Foreign Affairs Minister.
Minister Mahat thanked Singapore government and people for their support during the rescue, relief and reconstruction activities in Nepal following the April 25 earthquake, 2015.
He took the opportunity to urge the Singapore government to invest in hydropower, infrastructure development, tourism and information and technology sectors in Nepal as these sectors were appropriate for foreign investment.
He further urged the Singapore government to ease the visa process for the Nepalese students aspiring for studying in Singaporean Minister had taken it positively.
Earlier, Minister Mahat had visited Singapore based Gurkha contingent and inquired about the condition of Nepalese working there.
Minister Mahat, as the chief guest, is scheduled to address the Trade, Tourism and Investment Promotion Conference to be jointly organized by Nepali Embassy in Bangkok and Nepalese Honorary Consulate in Singapore. RSS
