4 May, Kathmandu-CPN-UML parliamentary party’s deputy leader and former Speaker Subash Nembang has stated that both the government and Election Commission ECN were positive on preponing the date of the second phase of local level election.
The local level poll being held after nearly two decades were scheduled to be held in two phases, one in May 14 and another in June 14 while the new constitution mandates that the budget be unveiled by May 29.
Speaking at a press conference organized by CPN-UML here Thursday in the context of the upcoming election, Nembang said that the government was positive on the proposal put forth by the UML Chair KP Sharma Oli in their last meeting to conduct the second phase of election before May 29.
UML, the major opposition, drew the attention of the government towards this end in the meeting between the Prime Minister and the UML Chair held today.
Nembang argued that the revising the date of the second phase of election is logical in the light of Ramadan festival of the Muslims and constitutional provision to announce budget by May 29 on which falls the Republic Day this year.
He said that counting of vote of the first phase election should be completed before the second phase of election.
