CJ Karki breached government’s rights: Attorney General Shrestha

5 May, Kathmandu- Attorney General Raman Kumar Shrestha has said that Chief Justice Sushila Karki interfered on the government’s jurisdiction by issuing order on the appointment of the Inspector General of Nepal Police.

During an interaction organized at Reporters’ Club in the capital city, Attorney General Shrestha said, “CJ Karki fuelled groupism by taking some Justices in favour and directing them to issue order as per her will.”
Similarly, General Secretary at Nepal Bar Association, Khamba Bahadur Khati, said the Legislature-Parliament would sort out the issues relating to the impeachment motion filed against her at Legislature-Parliament. The impeachment is the special rights of the Parliament, he said, arguing that NBA was not divided on its views on impeachment.
Constitutional expert Dr Chandra Kant Gyawali said it is rare case in the world that CJ is suspended when the impeachment motion is filed. The impeachment motion was ill intended, he argued.
Advocate Surendra Mahato said the impeachment motion was filed as per the constitution. As CJ Karki has said she would face the challenge following the impeachment, it was not logical to argue for not proceeding with the impeachment.
