NHRC will focus on issues related to migrant workers

  12  June, Dhanusha- Member of the National Human Rights Commission, Sudeep Pathak, has said that issues related to migrant workers would be their main work area in the coming 10 years.

At an inaugural session of two-day conference related to human rights of migrant workers at Janakpur on Monday, Pathak said that it was necessary to formulate policy and programme by carrying out deep study about the situation of foreign employment, saying problems of migrant workers have becoming complex day by day.
He said, “It is necessary for the government to allocate to allocate budget along with long-term plan by carrying out study for one year about positive progress, income and expenditure as well as negative impact to the families of the migrant workers from 50 districts who have gone for overseas employment.”
Sharing the information about Nepalis living in Qatar, Pathak said that all Nepalis in Qatar are in normal condition and Qatar has stock of foodstuff for 12 months. He suggested the government to establish office to resolve problems related to foreign employment in district-level.
Pathak said that the Department of Foreign Employment receives 2,100 complaints every year and more than 10,000 complaints are yet to be settled. The Central Region Office of the National Human Rights Commission, Janakpur, has organised the conference.
