Dec 23,Kathmandu  (RSS): The members of the House of Representatives and the State Assemblies elected from Kathmandu constituency no. 3 have stressed on the need of respecting the people’s aspirations while carrying out the road expansion, saying development should be for the people.
Addressing a programme organised by the Jorpati-Sundarijal Road Expansion Struggle Committee here today, lawmaker-elect Krishna Rai said that the local government itself should be given the responsibility of construction of infrastructure at the local level and of addressing any problem encountered in that connection.
State Assembly member-elect from Kathmandu constituency 3 (A), Chhiring Dorje Lama said only dismantling people’s houses and structures did not constitute development and therefore the road expansion should be carried ahead only after providing appropriate compensation to the locals.
State Assembly member-elect from Kathmandu constituency 3 (B), Rameshwar Phuyal called for providing compensation for the houses and structures lying along the road that is going to be expanded.
Mayor of Gokarneshwar Municipality, Santosh Chalise also reiterated that the people whose houses and sheds have to be demolished to pave way for the road expansion should be properly compensated for.
Deputy Mayor Shanti Nepal, president of the Struggle Committee, Saroj Kumar Shrestha and secretary Sushil Simkhada, among other speakers urged the Road Department not to terrorize the people in the name of road expansion.
The lawmakers-elect were also feted at the programme organised at the National Martyrs and Peace Memorial construction site.
