11th Israeli Film Festival from today



abuleleThe Embassy of Israel together with Nepal Film Society is all set once again to bring Israeli vibes to Nepal through the 11th Israeli Film Festival. An opening ceremony was organized at Nepal Tourism Board, Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu, amidst the presence of selected invitees with the screening of the film ‘Apples from the desert’, an adaptation of Israeli drama directed by Matti Hariri and Arik Lubetzky. The Right Honourable Onsari Gharti Magar, Speaker of the Legislature Parliament of Nepal had inaugurated the Film Festival.

The festival is scheduled from 21-23 June 2017 at Nepal Tourism Board, Kathmandu for public viewing. This year, apart from Kathmandu, the film festival will also be taken to Pokhara and for the very first time to Biratnagar. The screenings for Pokhara are scheduled for 28-30 June 2017and 6-8 July 2017 for Biratnagar. Nepal Tourism Board, OR2K Restaurant and Chamber of Industries Morang are promoting the event.

Inaugurating the Film Festival, The Right Honourable Speaker Gharti Magar said, “2014 was the great year for Israeli film industry. I wish this year would be the same too.”

H.E. Yaron Mayer, Ambassador of Israel to Nepal, briefly highlighted on the films that will be screened during the film festival and invited all the movie lovers to come, enjoy and experience Israeli culture.

The years 2017-18 have been declared by the Government of Israel as the jubilee years for the events that shaped the history of modern Israel. In this regard, ‘50 years of reunification of Jerusalem’ is of a great significance. Hence, 11th Israeli Film Festival is dedicated to the capital of Israel – Jerusalem. The selected films, depicting cultural and social aspects of Israeli life and Jewish tradition, are related to the city and its glory. Prior to screening of each films, a documentary related to Jerusalem will also be shown.

Entrance is Free for all the screenings. Seats are limited.
