3 Feb, Kathmandu- At least 37 metric tonnes of solid waste have been managed under clean-up campaigns of different rivers and ring road clean-up campaign in Kathmandu valley today.
Twelve tonnes of garbage were picked up from Bagmati river area at Shankhamul area under the Bagmati Clean-up Mega Campaign that entered the 247th week today.
The event saw the participation of more than 1,000 people from different walks of life, the High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Nepal Army, the Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force, Nepal Telecom, said campaigner Mala Kharel.
Similarly, one metric tonnes of solid waste were picked up from Gothatar bridge area as part of Guheshwari Bagmati Clean-up Campaign that made it to the 208th week said Pudasaini Maitri Samaj chair Uttam Pudasaini.
Another two metric tonnes of garbage were managed from the area between Old Baneshwar to Ratopool under 203rd week of Rudramati Clean-up Campaign. Two metric tonnes of garbage was collected from Manamaiju area under 175th week of Bishnumati Clean-up campaign.
Also today, 15 metric tonnes of garbage were picked up from the area between Gopi Krishna Hall to Sukedhara under the Ring Road Campaign that made it to the 43rd week. More than 600 people from different walks of life participated in the cleaning initiative.
People from various walks of life including former chair of the Interim Council of Ministers Kjhilraj Regmi, Minister for Women, Children and social Welfare Bikram Bahadur Thapa, AIG Jay Bahadur Chand among other high level government officials participated in the clean-up campaign.
