2 Oct, SEOUL – Police on Monday sought an arrest warrant for former national police chief Cho Hyun-oh on charges of masterminding cyber maneuvers to sway public opinion in favor of a previous conservative government.
Cho, who served as National Police Agency commissioner-general from 2010-2012, is suspected of having mobilized police officers to write more than 40,000 Internet comments in an effort to help form positive public views of then-President Lee Myung-bak’s administration.
He has denied the allegations.
Some former ranking police officers under Cho’s leadership have also been investigated, although a court has denied police requests for arrest warrants for them.
