 Oct 30, Kathmandu (RSS): Then Chairman of BP Koirala Cancer Hospital, Dr Bhaktaman Shrestha, has been found guilty of corruption by the Special Court.
A division bench comprising Chairman of the Court Baburam Regmi, Justices duo Ratna Bahadur Bagchand and Pramod Kumar Shrestha Vaidya issued the order imprisoning Shrestha for a year and fining him Rs 11.8 million.
On February 14, 2016, the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a case of corruption against Shrestha arguing that he illegally amassed property worth Rs 16.5 million. The properties did not have legitimate source of income, the CIAA added.
However, the Special Court said the properties of Rs 4.5 million had the legitimate source of income.
Meanwhile, the Bhaktaman’s wife Shilu Shrestha was acquitted of the corruption case. Dr Shrestha served at the Cancer Hospital for 13 years since 2054BS, while he was executive director of the hospital in the final three years.
