31 March, Bhadrapur – The Mechinagar municipality of Jhapa is to bear the responsibilities of all the libraries within the municipality. Mayor Bimal Acharya announced that the libraries would be preserved as an asset of the municipality.
Mayor Acharya made the announcement at an interaction organised by Triphala National Library at Mechinagar-10 on Saturday after the Library suffered a financial crisis. The mayor, deputy mayor and chairs of all 15 wards were invited to discuss ways to run the library which has some 40,000 books.
On the occasion, Chairperson of the Library Prem Prakash Falahari said that the operation of the library has become difficult due to financial constraints and lack of technical efficiency.
It was however agreed at the programme that the municipality would allocate regular budget for the library and also amend its statute in order to run it in a noble way.
