5 May, Bhadrapur – A teenager has drowned while swimming at an under-construction pond in ward no. 9 of Mechninagar municipality. Pranil Prasain,15, of the same locality died in the incident. According to the Area Police Office, Dhulabari, the pond was being constructed by the Magurmadi community forest users group for tourism promotion. Prasain drowned while swimming in it on Saturday. He had gone for a swim along with six other friends, who informed his parents after he did not come out of the pond. Swimming at the under-construction pond was prohibited. But the incident seems to have taken place when the guard had gone out for lunch, chair of the users committee Mukesh Subba said. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
