May 9,Kathmandu: The candidates fighting for mayoral post in the Kathmandu Metropolis have reiterated that they would commit to making Kathmandu a model city of the country.

At an interaction organized by Reporters’ Club in the capital city on Monday, Nepali Congress candidate Raju Raj Joshi said his party itself was the strong basis that he would win the election. “I will wipe out dust from Kathmandu streets, launch river cleanup programme, and ensure free internet service within five years,” he underscored.

Similarly, CPN-UML candidate Bidya Sundar Shakya said the party stand for nation and nationality was logical enough to lead him to victory. Waste management and conservation of cultural heritages are his priorities, he added.

Kishor Thapa fighting for the mayoral post from the Sajha Party said the study and experience are essential to propel development activities. “My study is urban development and I’ve worked for three decades in this sector, which may contribute well to achieve victory.”

Plan for city with good transport and water

 At another programme ‘Kathmandu Dialogue’ today, Naya Shakti Party’s mayoral candidate Pabitra Bajrachayra said the need of the hour is to make Kathmandu a dust free city and expand Sajha Transport service.

CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Sarbottam Dangol said he has the plan to store rain water and recharge underground water for long-term need of the Kathmandu though Melamchi would only cater to the drinking water need for the time being.

Thapa of Sajha Party said the government should operate public vehicles on its own and promote private sector where there is no government access.

The public transport management has turned to be awkward in Kathmandu due to the obduracy of private entrepreneurs, Thapa added.

Laxmi Bhandari of Nepal Pariwar Dal shared her plan that she would develop footpath and lanes on city roads in Kathmandu.

Campaigner of Kastamandap Reconstruction Alok Shakya said that the rebuilding of Kastamandap should not be carried out on contract. RSS
