4 May, Kathmandu-As many as 42 election candidates from various 10 municipalities of Kathmandu district withdrew their candidacies on Thursday.
The office of the election officers had fixed the time from 1:00pm to 5:00pm to withdraw the candidacy. Most of those deciding to roll back the candidacies are the ward chairs and members. Fielding themselves as independent candidates and backtracking later are the chairs for Nagarjuna, Gokarneshwor, Kageshwori Manahara and Shankarapur municipalities.
Chandragiri municipality witnessed largest number of candidacies- 11-withdrawn, said election officer Ganesh Nayak.
Similarly, a person withdrew his candidacy at Budhanilakanth municipality.
Three have retreated from Nagarjuna and Gokarneshwor municipality each, while nine from Tarakeshwor, four from Tokha and Kirtipur each, two from Shankarapur.
