31 Dec, Bardiya – Tharu Journalists’ Association, Bardia has set up a revolving fund worth Rs 50,000 driven with an objective to motivate Tharu journalists contributing to the societal development of the Tharu community through journalism.
Association’s Secretary Bhagiram Chaudhary said that the revolving fund was set up for capacity building of the Tharu journalists in the district with the dominance of the Tharus.
Although the population of Tharus accounts for 52 per cent of the total population in the district, the number of working Tharu journalists in the district is handful, according to Chaudhary.
He urged the well wishers and humanitarian organizations to contribute to the cause, stating that it would help in capacity building of the Tharu journalists.
With the interest from the total amount in the revolving fund, the Association seeks to hold various sorts of trainings for journalists and to increase access of the Tharu community to preservation and promotion of Tharu language and culture. RSS
