30 Dec, Jitpur, Kapilvastu-The Netuwa community of Kapilvastu have demanded with the government that they be included in the list of minorities of the country.
The Netuwa community is basically based in Pragatinagar of Shuddodhan rural municipality-1 with a population of around 200 in 14 families. They are basically landless settlers.
Though the Pattharkatta community was included in the list, their demand for the same has been ignored by subsequent government for many years. They are traditionally snake charmers. Now many are making a living by begging, according to local resident Manoj Netuwa.
As per 2011 census, there are around 300 members of the Netuwa community in Kapilvastu. They are living in Pragatinagar and Basantapur of Shuddodhan rural municipality and Abhirawa of Mayadevi rural municipality.
Every individual enlisted as minority get a social security allowance of Rs. 2,000 monthly.
