18 Jan, Kathmandu – Nepali Congress, the Main opposition party in Parliament, has demanded that the government give prompt approval to hospitals opened in the name of its leaders.
Chief whip of the Nepali Congress Bal Krishna Khand, speaking in the meeting of the House of Representatives today, said their serious attention has been drawn to the Council of Ministers not giving approval to only the two hospitals in the name of the Nepali Congress leaders out of the names of 11 big hospitals and treatment centres that the Ministry of Health presented to it for approval.
Speaker Krshna Bahadur Mahara allocated time to Khand to speak after the Nepali Congress lawmakers stood up from their seats in protest immediately following the conclusion of the MPs’ question hour with the Prime Minister in the meeting today.
Khand expressed his objection, saying the Cardiovascular Hospital in Tanahu and the Cancer Hospital in Banke which are named after the party president and former prime minister duo Girija Prasad Koirala and Sushil Koirala, respectively, were not given approval by the government.
He demanded that both the hospitals should be approved immediately and said both the hospitals were treating patients at present and the land has also been managed for them. The main opposition party chief whip said it was condemnable that the government was biased against the two hospitals, arguing that the late Girija Koirala had contributed to the peace process while Sushil Koirala had played key role in constitution promulgation.
Khand urged the government to initiate the process for their approval by keeping the two hospitals under the purview of the federal government.
Proposal on National Identity Card and Civil Registration Bill approved
Meanwhile, the meeting of the House of Representatives today unanimously approved a proposal seeking consideration on the National Identity Card and Civil Registration Bill, 2075 BS.
Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa had presented the proposal.

Responding to the questions, Home Minister Thapa shared that more than 100 countries in the world have the practice of national identity card and the bill has been brought with the objective of integrating all information related to citizens and paying attention to their security.
The meeting unanimously approved the Bill on Amending Some Nepal Acts, 2075 BS and the Pesticide Management Bill, 2075 and forwarded them to the committees concerned for clause-wise discussions.
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Bhanubhakta Dhakal had presented the two bills in the meeting, seeking to send them to the related parliamentary committees for clause-wise discussion.
The House of Representatives will meet next at 12 noon on January 21.
