2 Jan,Kathmandu: Nepali Congress central committee member Dr Shekhar Koirala has said that moving ahead by amending the constitution was the best alternative.
At an interaction, ‘Constitution Implementation and Relevance of National Reconciliation’, organised by Kathmandu chapter of the Nepal Press Union, on the occasion of National Reconciliation Day here today, Dr Koirala said that it was the need of hour to move ahead by amending the constitution through consensus among all parties.
Saying the constitution could not be amended keeping the CPN (UML) aside, he said, “The CPN (UML) thinking itself as being a democratic party and at the same time obstructing the House is not good move.”
The NC leader said that the country would get an outlet only after moving ahead by taking all political parties together, saying problems have surfaced in the country due to promulgation of the constitution in a hurry.
He said that election of three tiers was possible within January 2018 and added that all political parties should move ahead together for the same.
Similarly, NC leader Shovakar Parajuli said that it would be a true tribute to the late BP Koirala only if the NC moves ahead by taking all parties together.
Likewise, senior journalist Harihar Birahi said that the country would get outlet after moving ahead by incorporating sentiments of all amending the constitution while another senior journalist Kabir Rana said that political parties should learn from BP Koirala if they want to protect nationality and democracy.
Various personalities including Kathmandu president of Press Union, Nakul Aryal, central President Badri Sigdel and former Chairman of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Bishnu Nisthuri pointed out the need of reconciliation in the party to make the NC stronger. RSS
