13 Dec, Chitwan-Chief Justice Sushila Karki has directed the judges to provide the justice being clever to maintain the basic principle of law ‘Crucial to the Right to a Fair Trial’. Impartial and independent courts are at the heart of the Right to a fair Trial.
While inaugurating a seminar entitled Defense Rights of Citizens in Criminal Justice system here on Monday CJ Karki argued that while deciding criminal cases, judges should pay attention on whether a person has committed a criminal offence or not that should be based on fair assessment of the facts.
The courts must themselves be created by and subject to the law to ensure independence and prevent arbitrariness for fair justice. No innocent people should be subjected to the punishment, she added.
Chief Justice Karki opined for making the courts victim-friendly where they could get easy access to justice. CJ Karki has reached here in course of onsite inspection of the courts based on Narayani Zone.
Supreme Court judge Gopal Parajuli, former SC judge Mohan Prakash Sitaula, SC registrar Khilkanta Poudel had also addressed the programme.
As many as 36 judges of high courts and district courts of Makawanpur, Parsa, Bara, Chitwan, Nawalparasi and Rupandehi are attending the seminar, said Justice society Nepal Secretary Hemanta Rawal.
