22 March, Kathmandu-The World Poetry Day was marked on Tuesday with as many as 36 poets reciting their poems here in the capital city.
Poets Shyam Rimal, Bijaya Subba, Shakuntala Joshi, Thakur Belbase, Tanka Upreti, Purushottam Subedi, Fulmaya Bal, Sneha Sayami, Bina Thing and Yosoda Adhikari including other poets recited their poems at the programme organized by the Nepal Academy and Literature Department.
Academy’s Chancellor, Ganga Prasad Upreti, commented on the poems and vowed to work for preserving the poems. He stressed on need to make the members of the new generation conscious towards the poems citing their apparent lack of concern.
On the occasion, Academy’s former Chancellor, Bairagi Kaila, spoke of the need to promote poems on humanitarian manner. Stating the need for creating new subjects, Kaila called for handing over the trend of developing poems to the generation.
