24 Aug, Kathmandu-The Election Commission has registered Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Democratic) as a political party.
The party was registered as per the Political Party Act, 2073, according to EC spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma. The Commission took the decision following an order from the Supreme Court on the same.
Senior leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party Pashupati Shumsher Rana had filed an application for a division in the party along with signatures of the required number of central members on last August 6. In response, the EC called for verification of the signatures of the leaders as mentioned in the application. However, leader Rana sought the apex court’s order to register a new party.
The new party has been formed with 20 members of parliament and 69 central members, according to leader of the new party, RPP-D, Rajaram Shrestha.
