6 Dec,Lalitpur : The German International Cooperation Agency, GIZ, and the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) have signed an agreement on the implementation of renewable energy programme for rural areas.
This programme has been implemented under the technical assistance as per the understanding reached in 2014 between the Government of Nepal and the Government of Germany.
Dr. Elke Foerster, Country Director of GIZ Office, Kathmandu and Ram Prasad Dhital, Executive Director of AEPC signed an agreement to implement Renewable Energy for Rural Areas (RERA) Programme on Tuesday at AEPC office, Khumaltar, Lalitpur.
RERA is a three year long programme to expand AEPC activities in provincial and local level. This programme is expected to enhance the institutional capacity of the Centre as well as to contribute to systematizing its monitoring information system. It will also support in the capacity enhancement of province and local governments besides achieving gender and social inclusion in the renewable energy sector.
AEPC Director Nawaraj Dhakal said the programme aims to develop some rural municipalities in Province 1 and Province 7 into model rural municipalities in terms of the harnessing of renewable energy. The programme has a budget outlay of five million Euros.
