28 Nov,Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress (NC) has reached a decision to hold discussion with the main opposition party, the CPN (UML), and Madesh-centric political parties to further garner logical conclusions on constitution amendment.
At a meeting held in NC parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar here today, the office-bearers, both current and former, have decided to further the constitution amendment process after deliberating on the issues with other parties.
In the meeting, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba briefed about the draft of constitution amendment proposal. Issue pertaining to delineation of federal provinces remained a moot point in the meeting, according to NC leader Pushpa Bhusal.
Also, leaders representing province no 5 had protested the proposal seeking to annex some mountainous districts in province no 5 to its neighboring province no 4.
Another NC leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat said that NC would further dwell on constitution amendment proposal and take decisions after the government presents the final proposal on the same.
The four-point constitution amendment proposal incorporates issues like delineation of federal provinces, representation in Rastriya Sabha, naturalized citizenship and formation of Language Commission, according to Deputy Prime Minister Bimalendra Nidhi. RSS
