The pond of tourism, religious and cultural significance is associated with the legend of Lord Rama and his consort Sita who temporarily resided in a cottage on the bank of the Gandaki River at Rampur-8 in the district during their exile in the forest.
Legend has it that pond came into being after Lord Ram shot an arrow into the ground where Sita bathed in it during her monthly period.
Locals organize fairs during Shri Krishna Janmaastami, Ram Nawami and Sita Bibaha Panchami, according to Sita Kunda Temple Management Committee Secretary Rudra Nepali.
Nepali shared that the water in the pond has never dried and rice is grown in the pond annually.
He insisted that although the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation, Rampur Municipality and some local organizations have contributed financially for preservation of the pond by fencing the pond and the temple of Rama and Sita in its premises, the pond needs more preservation and publicity to establish itself as an important historical attraction.
